Although the timetable of Founders Day 2022 was significantly different to the format of traditional Founders Days, the OP Society were delighted that the convention of holding a cricket match on Bigside been the 1st XI and an OP XI was able to be reinstated this year after an absence of several years.

The match was played after lunch and commenced shortly after 2.00pm.

Members of the OP XI included:

Jim Field             (86-90)

John Saunders   (90-92)

Samuel Gunbie  (88-95)

Nick Hebden       (90-95)

Sam Hewick        (06-08)

Ollie Hart             (07-12)

Hugo Harvey       (09-14)

Ollie Newcombe  (12-17)

Ed Nash              (15-20)

Jake Alexander    (14-21)

Zac Alexander     (Current)

The match was played in a 20/20 format and the College XI batted first, setting a challenging total of 140 runs. The overcast conditions eventually saw a couple of rain showers one of which interrupted play just after the College concluded their innings and just before the OP XI went into bat.  However, the showers soon passed and did nothing to dampen the spirits of a very good humored game.

OP Society Chairman, Phillip Plato, praised both teams and remarked about the light hearted banter between both teams. He added that hopefully, some of those who left the College on that day will feel motivated to play for the OPs next year too.

Phillip encouraged all those Leavers who are now joining the OP Society to register on the new Pangbournian Portal website as he explained this is the best way for all OPs to follow news of such events he urged all current OPs, if they have not already done so, to register on the Portal and to tell all other OPs in their private networks to do likewise.

Many of those OPs parents and students who gathered around the boundary sharing picnics and conversation, expressed their delight that this event had returned to the College on Founders Day and it hoped this annual tradition will now be re-established for future years.
