Sunday 19 April marked a truly historic occasion for the College and its wider community, as the inaugural Pangbournian Day brought together the Pangbournian Community for a celebration rich in tradition, pride and unity.

“Many congratulations on a job being done so well and again thank you for looking after us in such a fitting manner and evoking so many memories of the times when we were those young cadets with our sights set on the future” (Old Pangbournian).

At the heart of the day’s events was a spectacular Parade, held under clear blue skies and warm spring sunshine with the bluebells in full bloom, conditions befitting such a milestone occasion. The entire Pangbournian community was invited to come together: current pupils, parents past and present, former staff and Old Pangbournians all gathered in impressive numbers to witness and take part in this landmark event.

“Home from home being back here today. Very moving and very special” (Former parent)

The Parade was reviewed by an outstanding trio of Old Pangbournians, whose achievements exemplify the values instilled by the College. Guest of Honour and Inspecting Officer Frankie Allen MBE (2015-20), Paralympic Gold Medal winner, led the inspection of Divisions with distinction and warmth. She was joined by Morgan Llewellyn (2015-22), recently recognised with a Police Constable’s award for bravery and Jeremy Moger (1962-66), who after a full career in the Army is now retired but is still fully engaged in charity work and volunteering - both of whom brought a deep sense of pride and connection to the proceedings.

Together, they inspected the Divisions with care and admiration, engaging with pupils and recognising the high standards on display. Their presence served as an inspiring reminder of the diverse paths Pangbournians go on to pursue and the shared foundation that unites them.

One of the most striking and symbolic moments of the Parade was the sight of boys and girls marching side by side. As the College celebrates 30 years of co-education, this powerful display of unity reflects the inclusive values the College continues to uphold. The Divisions, now fully co-educational, demonstrated cohesion, discipline and a shared sense of purpose that resonated strongly with all in attendance. Next year we look forward to welcoming the OP Division to March Past, which of course has been a co-educational Division for a number of years.

The marching band provided a magnificent soundtrack to the occasion, their music further lifting the atmosphere and adding to the shared sense of pride. Their performance drew admiration from the crowd and underscored the high standards of musical excellence within the College.

Following the Parade, the Community gathered together for lunch, providing a wonderful opportunity for attendees to reconnect and reflect on the morning’s events, before enjoying an afternoon of Cricket (full report to follow). Among those present were representatives from the OP Yacht Club, further highlighting the breadth and strength of the Pangbournian network and the wonderful opportunities available to OPs. We hope to see more clubs represented next year.

Beyond the Parade itself, Pangbournian Day proved to be a joyful reunion and celebration of community spirit. Old friendships were rekindled, stories were shared across generations, and the grounds were alive with conversation and laughter. It was a day that not only honoured the College’s traditions and history but also looked confidently to its future.

“After so long (65 years) it was a wonderful trip down memory lane and a complete revelation as to how much the College had changed over the intervening years.” (Old Pangbournian)

The success of this first Pangbournian Day sets a high benchmark for years to come. It is clear that this new tradition will become a cherished fixture in the Pangbournian calendar.

“What a good day. We look forward to the next time.  We are hugely grateful for all you do for all the OPs.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.” (Old Pangbournian)
