The evening began with a drinks reception for Boat Club parents and invited guests before moving to the chapel where we were joined by our current rowers and boarders to hear Frankie talk about her Paralympic experience and what it takes to become an elite athlete. Frankie has an extremely impressive CV. As well as holding the Gold medal, she is also a three times World and European Champion, three times World Cup winner and three times World Record Holder,
During the evening the audience heard about the hours of training required to qualify for a place in the GB boat and how Frankie balances her studies at Oxford Brookes University with her rowing schedule. It was also fantastic to hear a first hand account of the Paralympic experience which was brought to life with lots of behind the scenes photographs of the Paralympic village and all the activities taking place in Paris.
At the end of a very inspirational evening those present had the privilege of seeing and holding a Paralympic Gold medal. We would like to say a huge thank you to Frankie for giving her time to come and talk to us and who knows, maybe one of our current crop of rowers maybe inspired to emulate Frankie's success in the not too distant future.
