More than two hundred pupils, parents, staff and friends of the College gathered on Devitt Lawn last Friday evening for Pangbourne’s second annual Proms Concert. With the sun shining and families enjoying picnics on the lawn, it was a wonderful way to spend a summer evening as the school year draws to a close.
The concert began with an ambitious performance from the Marching Band, featuring new marching routines and a lively musical programme. Their energy and precision set the tone for an evening that showcased the impressive range of talent across the College.
There were outstanding performances throughout the programme, but a particular highlight was Ruby H. (8, D), who delighted the audience with Piano Man, singing while accompanying herself on both piano and harmonica. The concert also featured a selection of Trinity Drama performances, with pupils sharing excerpts from well-known plays and novels following their recent success in the Trinity examinations, where all achieved either Merit or Distinction.
Among many memorable moments, Eva S. (L6, I) brought great energy to the stage with a superb drum solo, while numerous other musicians, singers and actors impressed the audience with confident and accomplished performances. The drama section concluded with a humorous ensemble performance of Shakespeare’s famous ‘To be or not to be’ speech, with each performer insisting that their interpretation was the correct one, bringing all of the Trinity Drama pupils together for a fittingly entertaining finale from them.
The evening ended in style with a spectacular accompanied display from the Corps of Drums, providing a fitting close to a fantastic community event.
The Music and Drama Departments would like to thank everyone who helped make the evening such a success. In particular, we are grateful to Nicola Graham for piano accompaniment; Simon Nicholls for leading the Marching Band and overseeing event management; John Donnelly for his work with the Corps of Drums; Dee Fallon for preparing the Trinity Drama pupils; and Ben Kearney, assisted by Rhys D. (9, Q), for sound and lighting. Their expertise, dedication and support helped create a memorable evening for performers and audience alike.
