Introducing the PCAB

What is the PCAB?

The Pangbournian Community Advisory Board (PCAB) provides the glue, uniting  together the entire community associated with Pangbourne College - parents, past-parents, Old Pangbournians, staff (current and former) and friends.

The PCAB meets once a term to plan, coordinate and support events and activities that nurture community spirit, strengthen connections and help everyone stay engaged with the College and with each other.

What do they actually do?

  • Community communications - from the magazine to the newsletter and content for social channels, the PCB input with brilliant ideas for stories and content.
  • Community building & engagement - Helping to organise events, networking opportunities, mentoring and social gatherings through the wider “Pangbournian Community”.
  • Supporting projects & initiatives -  Operating a grants programme: members of the Pangbournian community (clubs, groups, societies) can apply for up to £1,500 to fund activities or events that align with the College’s strategic priorities and values.
  • Co-ordination across stakeholders - By representing a range of different stakeholders (parents, alumni, past-parents, current staff, former staff and friends), PCAB ensures the voices and interests of the whole community help shape how the College and its community programmes develop.

The PCAB acts as both the glue that binds together the Pangbournian community, and the engine that helps the community drive positive initiatives, support and engagement.

Who are the members of the PCAB? The Board enables fair representation on the College community groups and includes current parents and staff, former parents and OPs who all bring expertise to the forum. Perena Shryane brings particularly strong credentials to her role as Chair of PCAB:

  • As the first female and first non-alumni Director of the alumni society of Harrow Schools, she has personal experience of leading and shaping alumni engagement and community-building at a high standard.
  • As a Governor of Pangbourne College, she brings a clear understanding of the school’s goals and ethos.
  • Her background in delivering sector-leading alumni engagement and community programmes gives PCAB access to proven models and best practices - helping Pangbourne adopt approaches used by some of the country’s most successful schools.

The PCAB does not just represent community interests, the board bring  strategic insight and experience, ensuring that community engagement is robust, forward-looking and effective.

What this means for the Pangbournian Community

Thanks to the PCAB a the wider Pangbournian Community gains:

  • A well-structured, inclusive forum where everyone (parents, alumni, staff, friends) can stay connected, contribute ideas, and participate.
  • Access to funding and resources for new initiatives, events, and projects that benefit the school and its community -  from social events to mentoring programmes, fundraising, community outreach or student opportunities.
  • Professional-level community engagement and alumni-relations standards, benefiting from best practices learned from leading independent schools.
  • A sense of continuity and belonging across generations: former pupils, current families, staff past and present - all part of a united, supportive network.
