'Bill' Bailey takes on another charity adventure on his 'pushbike'

M.R.S. ‘Bill’ Bailey (58-62), now aged 76, has been persuaded to squeeze back into lycra one more time in order to help out with “a very worthwhile project” for a “small and efficient” charity called PTSD Resolution. It provides assistance to serving and retired members of the UK armed forces who are suffering trauma or mental health issues as a result of experiences in war and crisis situations.

With a friend, Jonathan Thomson, Bill plans to ride his “pushbike” from east to west across the French Pyrenees on a four-day journey in early September. After a two-day rest, the pair will then undertake the return route from Argelès-Sur-Mer, ending about eight days later at Hendaye on the Atlantic coast. The next week following this reconnaissance ride, a full team, including PTSD sufferers, will undertake the entire ride. Part of the route was included in the 2021 Tour de France event.

Bill has been in training for the past eight months from his home in Tenerife. “A mountain outside my back door offers me realistic high-altitude experience in preparation for the Pyrenees,” he reckons. “It will be a serious undertaking and you may be relieved to know that we shall have suitable backup with us all the way. We would all be really grateful if you could help our project with whatever you may feel it's worth.”
