OP Dan Holloway takes on Yukon Challenge

OP Dan Holloway (94-99) is taking on one of the worlds toughest challenges in an epic 1000 mile journey.

Many of us wonder if we would have the both the physical and mental fortitude to cope with some of the major endurance challenges that we see people attempting, well OP Dan Holloway (94-99) is about to find out for himself.

Dan, currently Chief of Staff of the British Military Mission in Kuwait, has teamed up with Nick Spicer to take part in the gruelling Yukon 1000 self supported race.  The race sees competitors paddle 18 hours a day over 10 days to complete the 1000 mile stretch of the Yukon river from Whitehorse in Canada to the Dalton Highway Bridge which is the last road crossing of the Yukon in Alaska.

The annual race starts on July 14th and is limited to 40 teams.  Each team needs to carry everything they will need to survive for the duration including all the food (in a bear barrel).   Dan and his friend Nick Spicer have chosen the team name 'Fortune Favours The Brave' as both a link to their time together in the Yorkshire Regiment and also the magnitude of the challenge.

Something that will be spurring the team on during the race will be the funds that they hope to raise for the two charities they are supporting  - Reduce our Carbon Charitable Foundation and Young People's Independent Counselling (YPI) of which Dan is Acting Chairman.  YPI Counselling is a small charity providing much needed and under resourced counselling for young people and their families across Basingstoke & Deane who suffer with issues ranging from crippling anxiety to recovering from the psychological damage caused by all types of abuse.
