The College’s golf team secured a decisive victory against the Old Pangbournians in their annual fixture on Monday 21 September 2026.
Ten pupils and two staff members travelled to the Berkshire Golf Club for an afternoon on the renowned Red Course. Under ideal, warm sunny skies, the College delivered solid performances across the board to claim a 3½ to 1½ victory over the alumni side.
Reverend Neil Jeffers, Master of Golf, praised the players for an outstanding afternoon on the greens. The Old Pangbournian team was expertly organised by Charlie Parry (1981–85).
Founded in 1928, The Berkshire Golf Club has two famed courses designed by Herbert Fowler, widely considered among the finest in the UK. The historic venue provided a picturesque yet challenging backdrop for the fixture, with its signature pine- and heather-lined fairways testing the skills of both pupils and OPs.
The OP Golf Society (OPGS) itself boasts a rich history, having been founded in 1959 by R&A member John Whitmore (1944–47). Today, the OPGS is led by Secretary and organiser Charlie Parry, who is also a five-time winner of the Society's prestigious President’s Prize. The OPGS hosts an annual meeting across southern England, competes in the Centenary Cup knock-out and runs fixtures against the College.
The OPGS warmly welcomes Old Pangbournians of all locations and skill levels to take part in its events. If you are interested in finding out more about the OP Golf Society, click here.
