Written originally in 1936 - 38 by Admiral Cumberlege as a record of his life, Salt Horse was never published. The original manuscript has now been expertly edited by Robin Knight and made readable in terms of language to a modern audience.
Cumberlege writes with some verve. He has strong views but made numerous friends and lived a spirited, irreverant and fortunate existence in peace and war. Some of his stories are both historic and eye catching include his experience in New Guinea during WW1 and his 1905 lunch in Gibraltar with Kaiser Wilhem II
Salt Horse is complemented with a timeline, family tree and introduction which traces Cumberlege's background and takes his life story from 1938 to his death in 1963. With numerous black and white images and short footnotes the people mentioned in the text are brought to life.
The publication date for the book is January 2024 but you can order a copy in advance by visiting the publisher website and typing Salt Horse in the Search Box
