Obituaries

Roger Hacker (70-75) died in 2019 as the OP Society understood when his copy of the 2021 OP Magazine was returned and marked “deceased.” He was living in Leamington Spa at the time of his death and was single, having been divorced twice. He left two sons by his second marriage.

At Pangbourne, Roger was a Cadet Captain in Illawarra Division and a member of the Upper V1th form. He was Captain of Boats in 1975 and took part in the coxed pairs at the 1974 National Schools Regatta, winning a silver medal. He was awarded his Colours in the 1975 1st XV using his height and weight well in the second row, and was also a member of the Band, playing the bugle and becoming Drum Major. In 1975 he won the Music prize; one of his skills was playing a 12-string guitar. His friend and fellow rower in the coxed pairs at the College, Jamie Cunningham, remembers him as “a real level guy – kind, fun, determined and fun to get along with.”

On leaving the College, Roger studied Print & Business Management at the London College of Printing. Later he worked for Pan Books and BT but we have no other details.
