Obituaries

Michael Lavender Jones (41-45) died on January 27, 2019 aged 91 as reported in The Daily Telegraph and also by the widow of George Robins (41-44). He left a wife Sheila and a son Neil. The funeral was held in St. Albans, Hertfordshire.

At the NCP, Lavender Jones was Chief of Macquarie in Spring Term 1945 and a member of the Merchant Navy Form. He captained the 2nd XV rugby team in 1944 and won his Colours in the College 1st X1 hockey team in 1945 playing at right back where he was described as having “a good eye and fast, could hit hard but unfortunately seldom opened up the game with oblique passes.” He also belonged to the Marching Band at one time.

From the College Lavender Jones joined the shipping line T. & J. Harrison. By 1963, when the OP Register was compiled, he had come ashore, was working in the “tobacco trade” and was living in Bramhall, Cheshire. We have no further information.
