John Champion (57-61) died in New Zealand on February 14, 2021 after a long battle with asbestos lung cancer as the Society was informed in April by his wife Sally.
After the NCP where he was in Hesperus Division, John entered the Merchant Navy with Shaw, Savill & Albion Line and also served for a time in the RNR. Most of his voyages involved trades between the UK and Australia and New Zealand. Shaw Savill ceased trading in 1975. John is believed to have settled in New Zealand around this time but had nothing to do with OP events there and the Society has no further details.
