Robert Edward Mason (52-55) died on May 26th, 2022, aged 83.
His son Bob Mason (Jnr) writes:
“My father very much enjoyed attending The Nautical College, and seeing the OP Magazine and emails from the College over the last few years. He left the sea in 1963 and enjoyed a successful career being self-employed. He had settled in North Wales where he lived for more than 50 years. He was married for 61 years having two sons and a daughter and seven grandchildren.”
Robin Knight (56-61) adds: “Bob Mason (Snr) arrived at the NCP from West House prep school, Edgbaston in the summer term 1952. After a year in Port Jackson Division, he moved up the drive to Devitt House and Macquarie Division in 1953. The following summer Macquarie moved into the first of the two new houses built at the College behind Devitt House. Bob was a member of the Sailing team in 1955. Leaving the College at the end of the summer term 1955, he joined the Alfred Holt/Blue Funnel shipping line, remaining with the company for eight years before coming ashore and starting a career in civilian life.”
